"Contrary to what is so often said, relativism is a way to float on data, not drown in them."

Bruno Latour (Reassembling the Social, 2007, p. 24)

Co-Founder DONNA ALVERMANN is intrigued by uncertainty, especially when it contradicts assumptions about "country folk" — who they are, what they do, and how they go. Turning stale images of these folk on their head is what she plans to do in this space called Becoming 3lectric. Here, actors (human and otherwise) will do unexpected things to one another with expected irregularity. Come join her.

"Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death."

— Anaïs Nin

Co-Founder CRYSTAL L. BEACH didn't recognize how much becoming meant to her until she started to think about all of the ways one "becomes" through image, video, text, or other multimodal constructions. She finds that within the digital sphere, one's becoming can (perhaps) push back against limits and labels especially when it is always electrifying within a continuous current of remixing and remembering who one is, has been, or can become.

“I think the creative process is not about creating something else, it is about the process itself creating who I am.”

Mayumi Oda, Japanese Artist and Writer

STEPHANIE LOOMIS believes that everyone has the ability to become a creator because every individual is infused with a unique perspective of life, the world, and humanity. Whether analog or digital, being creative is an essential part of becoming.

"The machine is not in it to be animated, worshipped, and dominated. The machine is us . . . "

 Donna Haraway (A Cyborg Manifesto, 1991, p. 178)

Co-Founder and Previous Blogger: JOE JOHNSON has never found a place to still, stay in one place — even finish one sentence before . . . He became aware of Becoming* as a child when he was given a guitar, a paint set, and a BB gun, and then given free reign of the neighborhood. He took dance lessons too. As life continues to spread out around him he is learning that there is beauty in the chaos that surrounds not being able to stay on a singular path. Becoming 3lectric, nearly fused to tech, has only opened up more possibilities for completing even fewer sentences, chasing more rabbits, and becoming more.

* No one called it Becoming back then, they just said: "Go play. And try not to get into trouble again."
